The Eastern and Mekong region of Cambodia is rich and diverse in culture, scenery and landscape. The roads and trails are prefect for exploring by motorcycle with anything from small gravel lanes right beside the Mekong to vast red roads through sweeping plans near the Thai and Laos border and everything in between.

Every day offers something special and unique and we take time to meet the friendly locals and learn about their daily life, family, and customs. This is a great motorcycle adventure that you won’t want to miss.

Day 1 | Siem Reap – Siem Reap | 74.7km

Induction day Before we start exploring in earnest, we take a short ride to get to know the bike and the local roads and conditions. We explore some of the backroads in Siem Reap where there is a surprise around every corner. After a break and a chat at a quiet local picnic spot, we ride back to JRHQ to prep the bikes for our departure tomorrow. Tonights dinner will be a BBQ spread at JRHQ.

Day 2 | Siem Reap – Sra Em | 210km

We depart early from JRHQ to beat the heat and the traffic, as the first part of the ride this morning is on sealed road, before branching off onto a rubber plantation road. We follow a series of regional roads and trails to get us to our scenic local lunch spot, stopping for photo ops, and local interaction along the way. We will pay a visit to Preah Vihear either this afternoon or tomorrow morning depending on weather and time. Preah Vihear is an 11th Century sprawling hilltop temple offering stunning views over Thailand and Cambodia. We overnight in Sra Em.

Day 3 | Sra Em – Stung Treng | 221km

Today we explore the remote red highway that follows the Thai and Laos border, and make a quick stop at the Emerald Triangle and we visit one of the largest waterfalls (by volume) in South-East Asia. This evening we have a peaceful stay in small wooden bungalows perched on the edge of the Mekong.

Day 4 | Stung Treng – Kratie | 196km

We depart early and make our way along the Mighty Mekong River, ducking in and out of small villages and meeting friendly, relaxed locals along the way. Some of the most spectacular pagoda’s can be found along the river, we stop at one of the oldest and most historic sites for a leg stretch. We arrive in Kratie late afternoon and have a sundowner overlooking the 7th longest river in Asia.

Day 5 |Kratie – Kratie | 50km

Today is a rest day with the option to take a half day exploratory ride along the Mekong, or perhaps take a kayak on the river and move at the pace of the Mekong.

Day 6 | Kratie – Kompong Cham | 130km

We depart Kratie first on blacktop but we soon have the freedom to explore the small, scenic gravel trails along the mekong. We pass between buddhist temples, mosques, traditional fishing villages and tobacco co-ops where we can meet and chat with some of the friendliest people in Cambodia. We cross the Mekong again and end the day in the wonderfully clean provincial town of Kompong Cham.

Day 7 | Kompong Cham – Siem Reap | 258km

Following breakfast overlooking the Mekong, we make our way back towards Siem Reap. There are some unavoidable highway sections today but nothing our machines and you can’t handle! We arrive back at JRHQ by early afternoon and meet-up again for the final dinner and farewell.

Important Items

The following items should be carried on your person at all times when on tour:

  • Passport with 2 spare passport photos
  • Motorcycle Drivers License and IDP
  • Personal Insurance Card
  • Credit Card or access to emergency funds
  • Medical Advice Card, if any
  • Personal Medication, if any
  • Daily Cash, allow $20usd per day for personal use, in small denominations.
  • Emergency Cash, $500usd

Personal Safety Gear

It can be hot and dusty, and Cambodia is notoriously tough on gear! The following items are essential for your personal safety and comfort:

  • Motorcycle Helmet DOT approved (full face recommended)
  • Sunglasses for eye protection (polarised recommended)
  • Clear/tinted glasses for low light conditions
  • Riding Jacket (textile, perforated leather, leather)
  • Riding Gloves
  • Long Pants or Riding pants
  • Leather Boots to cover your ankles
